The Action Plan encourages the creation of environments in which health and wellbeing are promoted and healthy options become the easy option.

Eight key areas for action have been highlighted:
• Support a healthy start in life
• Promote healthier environments, especially in schools and pre-schools
• Make the healthy option the easier option
• Restrict marketing and advertising to children
• Inform and empower families
• Encourage physical activity
• Monitor and evaluate
• Increase research

The European Health Report 2012: Charting the way to well-being 2012 The World Health Organisation The 2012 European health report focuses on supporting and providing the evidence base for the strategic objectives and priorities of Health 2020, the new European policy framework to support action across government and society for health and wellbeing. This new European policy targets the main health challenges in the 53 countries in the WHO European Region, such as increasing health inequities within and between countries, addressing public service expenditure and a growing burden of ill health from non communicable diseases such as obesity, cancer and heart disease. Ministers from across the World Health Organisation European Region have adopted a European Charter on Counteracting Obesity which calls for specific action, including regulatory measures that each country can take to tackle obesity.
